This must be the busiest restaurant/pub in Guelph; it was packed! We had to wait for our table for a while, but the bar was a great place to do so. We had our appetizers at the bar before being moved to our table and the bartender was great company. So we had the Shrimp Dumplings and the Tandoori Wings with our brew at the bar. If anyone reading this goes to the Farmer's Market, the dumplings are from Feng's Dumplings. After asking the waitress, she informed us that the dumplings on the menu are custom made for the Fat Duck and that Feng's doesn't sell them anywhere else. We confirmed that with Feng's on Saturday morning at the Market. They were so delicious we wanted seconds but decided to save our stomachs for the main course. The Tandoori Wings were really tasty as well and both were great with the beer we ordered. The main course was a little slower coming out, but as this is fine dining in a pub environment, this was expected. The Caesar salad was the best we've ever had, and we have Caesar salad almost every time we eat out. The Crispy Duck Confit was crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside, very tasty and didn't have that "fatty" feeling that a lot of duck dishes have. The Fish & Chips were great because the fish batter was golden crispy and the fish tasted very fresh. The super thick chips that we ordered were superb with a side of Dijon mustard. Our second waitress (different from the bar) was just as polite and friendly as the first and checked on us throughout our meal. We were planning to order dessert, but we were too full to do so. But we'll definitely be back for dessert and coffee later on next week. The only downside to our experience was having to wait a while for our main course. Anyone wanting to eat at the Fat Duck should be aware that the food is not pub grub. It is fine dining and it takes a while to prepare; so relax, be patient, enjoy a couple of drinks and your meal!
This food was awesome great curry ,the seasoning was just lovely the chips where good . The cream of cauliflower soup was very tasty and creamy served hot . And lastly the pints of lager went down great the service was excellent and fast . Best of luck with your new DUCK . Mary .M
I had the pleasure of visiting this new restaurant on only its second day of operation and for the most part my experience was wonderful. The food was to die for. The Fat Duck has the feel of an English pub but the food has the quality of fine dinning. I sat at the Bar rather then a table and the Bartender made my day with his humour, and his energetic personality. Having staff like him is very important, I could see myself becoming a regular...and if that particular bartender is working I'll always enjoy my meal at the bar. I highly recommend the Fat Duck! Cheers.
HAD TO WAIT FOR 30 MINUTES FOR A TABLE, SO WE ENJOYED A BEER IN THE BAR AREA. THE FOOD WAS GREAT, AND THE SERVICE WAS JUST AS GOOD. WAS A BIT DISSAPPOINTED WITH THE DECOR THOUGH, THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT MORE COZY. MAYBE IT WAS JUST THE AREA WE WERE SEATED IN. WOULD DEFINITELY GO BACK.
FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. WAITING TIME WAS 20 MINS FOR A TABLE. SERVICE WAS JUST AS GOOD. OVERALL WAS NOT TOO IMPRESSED WITH THE ATMOSPHERE IN THE DINING ROOM. WOULD DEFINATELY GO BACK.
