Delicious dinner buffet!

I have always driven past this plaza many times and never really noticed the little restaurant in the corner. However, this place was recommended by a co-worker .... and did not disappoint. We went there for the dinner buffet and enjoyed every bit of it. We went around early when they were setting up, so the food was very fresh! Most of the items were not that spicy which I appreciated. The onion appetizer, soup and the dessert were exceptionally good. They also serve a fresh fluffy bread after you start the buffet (not the nan) which is really good (ask for it, if you don't get it). The service was very prompt and friendly despite being busy. The tiny restaurant seems to fill up quickly, so maybe reserving a table in advance might be a good idea - if they do that. Will be back!

Bad food

It was the worst Indian food I ever had in Canada. This place is not worth going at all. We had buffet dinner and except for the sweet nothing had any taste and was looking stale. Please don't go there.

Worst Food Ever...Please dont go

Please never visit this place because food was pathetic..Worst ever I had...It was not fresh even & no taste at all... Smelly food...no taste...no variation...not fresh...not even close to India food... I am still regretting my decision for going to Classic India even 1 day after I went there. Please please please never visit there.

Pathetic Food - Worst meal ever

Worst meal ever. Utter waste of money. Buffet was for $17 and out of 10 things we tried, none of it was even average. Everything was just pathetic, felt like it was couple of weeks old food. For non-Indians, please don't get confused with the food they server and Indian food. It is no where related to average Indian food. I would never recommend this place.

Awesome Meal

The reno's that Chef Thiru have done are awesome. The buffet is amazing, the chutney tree is varied, so you can have a taste of about 8 different flavours. From start to finish it was great, super selection, the chili chicken is amazing. I will for sure be back. Oh, and the best mulligatawny soup, the best!

Never again

We lived for 7 years in England and Indian food was absolutely fantastic there, taste was (almost always) spot on and the flavors were really subtle. We were looking for an Indian restaurant in Waterloo to remind of all those great flavors and found that one on the Internet. Arriving there we were a bit disappointed by the general atmosphere at it was really really cheaply decorated (if we can even call it that). KFC looked luxurious compared to this. Never mind we thought, all those newspaper cut on the walls telling how the atmosphere is low key but how the food is great cannot be wrong (you would think). After perusing at the menu for a while we discovered that prices were a bit on the expensive side and that they didn't have my favorite, Chicken Tandoori (they don't even have a tandoori oven, that says a lot about the authenticity of the place). We finally settled for the traditional naans, my son ordered a chicken tika massala, my wife a chicken korma and myself ordered a peanut butter chicken. For side we ordered rice, a vegetable curry and sag aloo. Now honestly I have tried a lot of Indian restaurants, and cooked my share of indian dishes at home (from ready made sauce jar to full blown all hand made meal from scratch, although I must say I am not from India and far from an expert in cooking those kind of dishes) and this didn't even compared to a plain jar of sauce and pieces of chicken breast cooked in 10mn at home. The Korma was sort of ok although the taste was just plain coconut and no other flavor, the tika massala was the most bland and tasteless thing i ever had and my peanut butter chicken tasted just that - chicken cooked in peanut butter with no other spices added whatsoever. Service was standard and far from anything special at all; the table was your normal cheap table with a plastic flower as decoration and cheap white ceramic plates, with uncomfortable metal chairs; The view from the restaurant was the plaza car park. It was one of the most disappointing eating experience I ever had the displeasure to have and I will never come back, even if I was invited.

Dissapointing

I dropped in to pick up some take away for my wife as our usual curry house was closed on Sunday. I was greeted by a man who was taking orders, cooking and serving at the same time. They only had one person working there and about 10 people eating at the restaurant. After I placed an order for a Chicken Korma, I was told to come back in 20 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes later and the food was just coming off the heat so I had to wait another 10 minutes to pay and walk out. Since I was already late I rushed to get the food home to my wife, only to discover when I got there that they had given us the wrong thing - Lamb! Which she doesnt eat! I went back and they had charged me for a Lamb passanda $9.99, been given a Lamb Korma which costs $7.99 when I had ordered a Chicken Korma. I asked the person to just refund me the money and after trying to bribe me with $5, and trying to call "his boss" on the phone. He kept giving me the phone to listen to a "the person you are calling is not available" message. Finally he took my number and promissed to call me back when "the boss" is back so that I could get a refund. I never got a call, and I never set foot there again.

I have been to Classic Indian Restaurant numerous times. It is one of the best Indian food places in the city. I visited Classic Indian recently for their dinner buffet on a Friday night with my family. The service is excellent, welcoming with a smiling face, giving a quick tour on the buffet dishes of the night (for customers new to the restaurant) and having the ordered drinks at the table before you're done helping yourself at the buffet line. The food quality is simply great! The food is prepared with authentic Indian flavors while staying very conscious about your health by using no butter and vegetable oil for cooking. The price range is very ideal costing about $20 per person. Every visit to Classic Indian is an amazing experience. I would recommend having a dinner at this place. And if you just want to spend the night at home- the restaurant also offers take out and food delivery options. The quality and quantity of the food, and the quality of service are very well maintained!

Instant classic

I've had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant on a few occasions, and I would have to say it is one of my favorite places to eat in Waterloo. Most of the time when i visit the place I usually have their lunch buffet. Although small in selection of food for the buffet, you can clearly taste the quality in the food. Take out at the restaurant is even better then eating the buffet for obvious reasons. I had their butter chicken and somosas. Probably one of the best I've had.

I went here with my friends, and it was the most wonderful I've ever tasted. It was my first time trying out Indian food, and it was a great experience with Classic Indian! The service was great too, and our waiter was very helpful and patient with us in what we wanted to order. The music, ambience and atmosphere was so comforting, better than any restaurant I've been in before. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for casual, family dining!

This is the perfect little family resteraunt. I have never tired the buffet but teh food off the menu is the best food i have ever tested. I drive all the way from hamilton every weekend to eat here. The tikki-masala is perfect. The food is quick and after the second time we went they had our orders memorized and began cooking as soon as we were seated. Love the mini samosas...the vindaloo is also very delicious.

Superb

Before I ate at Classic I thought I didn't like Indian food. This place was recommended to me by a friend as the best restaurant in Waterloo, so I decided to be optimistic and give it a try. The exterior is humble, doesn't look like much and it's a very small place. However, there was absolutely nothing about the meal I would change. Everything was delicious, and now I can say with enthusiasm that I like Indian food.

I usually go out for dinner twice a month and have done so for many years. There are only a few places that I would return to again and again. This place is my favorite and by far the best restaurant that I have been to in many years. The restaurant is small, so it is usually busy but the staff are attentive and the food is always hot. You can see the kitchen and watch them cooking as you eat. This is a great place and if you enjoy Indian food this the best of the best!
